Gakugei Daigaku studio on Saturday afternoon. Defending against 2 attackers, one of them choking the defender from behind with a headlock. Here are some pictures of the knife workshop that we run on Sunday afternoon in one of Tokyo's beautiful park.
Knife is one of the most common weapon use in the street by aggressors, it is also one of the most dangerous weapon to defend against. Krav Maga Global technics against knife attacks are based on logic principles and are very effective but of course they require a lot of practice to increase the chances to implemented the defense successfully in a real life threatening situation. We finished the day with a realistic drill of defending surprise knife attack in low light condition (it was night already). Everyone did a fantastic job, the weather was nice and we had a great time. Thank you everyone for attending the workshop! Just come back from one week in Beijing where I trained with other regional instructors under the guidance of KMG's Global Team Instructor and Law Enforcement Instructor Balazs. Szabo.
A great week with some very good fighting sessions and great people. Friday 4 students passed their second level test. It was 3 hours of intensive practice; including a lots of punches and kicks toward all directions, defenses against attacks coming from all sides and defenses against kicks.
These students started Krav Maga about 9 months ago and have been training at least 3 hours per week since. It is quite impressive to see how much changes regular Krav Maga training can bring to your body, your coordination and fluidity of movement, your strength and flexibility. Next level test shall be in about 5 months. Good work guys! Keep training hard! Every Thursday night from 9.30 to 10.30pm it's the class for P1 level students and above. This class is meant to work on more advanced technics and prepare for the next level. It is also the class where we practice sparring with protective gears in order to better prepare for real life physical confrontation. Sparring is an essential part of Krav Maga but there is a minimum level required from the student in order to be ready for it and practice safely. Sparring is great and exciting and it takes your Krav Maga experience to another level.
Congratulation to my freshly graduated P1 level students. At KMG, Krav Maga level testing is taken very seriously. The test lasted for 3 hours, during which students had to demonstrate their knowledges and their ability to perform about 30 technics.
Now you've got your diploma in hand and you can prepare for the next level with more exciting Krav Maga classes. This is the reward of 6 months of hard training but it is still the beginning of your Krav Maga journey. Great work everyone! Attacker attacks with a straight low stick stab to the abdomen. Defense with moving to the live side: Deflect the stick with the left hand (hand defense) while moving your body to the left side (body defense), catch the stick with your right hand (control the weapon) while stepping to the left (out of the channel of attack) and kick the groin with your right leg (first counterattack), continue with a hand strike to the face (second counterattack), then catch the stick with 2 hands and disarm the attacker (neutralize the attack), scan and move away from the danger zone. It is also possible to move to the dead side of the attacker, in which case the defender executes the same principle of defense but in the opposite direction. From this day we start to have regular classes every Saturday in a studio at Shibuya. This class is open to all level Krav Maga practitioners. Today after warming up we reviewed punches and kicks and then we spent about 40 min working on defense against pistol threat:
Control the pistol with one hand while executing hand and body defense to be out of the line of fire; counterattack with a strong punch to the face; control the pistol with 2 hands while stepping to the side; break the grip and disarm the aggressor. The hips are very important in striking. Whether it is for punches and elbows or for kicks and knees the twisting the hips is essential to execute a correct technic. The twisting of the hips increases the reach and the power of the strikes.
The picture below illustrates the increase of the reach created by the twisting of the hips while executing a front kick. |
